When we look at all the slot game developers, there are those that are household names – for a good reason or despite the lack of one – and those that are considered young vibrant developers that take a fresh approach and move the boundaries. Betsoft is unfortunate to be stuck in the middle, as a seriously underrated slot game developer. Let's have a look why is it so and does Betsoft deserve more appreciation.
It's a fact that most renowned slot game developers have at least one, if not more, hugely successful games. With NetEnt that's obviously Starburst and Gonzo's Quest. With Microgaming it's Mega Moolah. With Realtime Gaming it's their series of Christmas slots.
Betsoft has, unfortunately, been largely unsuccessful in creating a flagship game that would carry the entire portfolio of 200+ titles. When we look at the list of Betsoft slots it's one quality game after another – something few, if any, developers can achieve – but there is no single big hit that everybody knows.
The closest to this status are Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Yak Yeti and Roll, and classics such as Good Girl Bad Girl slot, The Angler slot, and The Slotfather II. While all of these are quality games with a high theoretical payout, and you see them mentioned among the best slots to play, none really achieved stardom.
And without the halo effect that would come from one game that everyone knows, you don’t get to be considered the best.
The recent releases of Betsoft are showing a considerable upgrade in production quality, both in terms of graphics and in terms of gameplay. The graphical designs have finally abandoned that distinguishable Betsoft style and are now looking more like slots by other developers, so Betsoft saw their mistake and caught on with the trends.
In terms of gameplay, not even the "young vibrant" developers can match what Betsoft is doing right now. Every game has an interesting bonus feature – not just a free spins round – and it's obvious this is a huge focus for Betsoft and that a lot of planning is involved in designing bonus rounds.
For example, Total Overdrive slot features a win multiplier that increases with every winning spin, and it can go up to 10x after you win on 9 consecutive spins. Wolf Moon Rising, a classic slot, has a more conventional free spins round but again it has a nice twist – you get 12 free spins with wins doubled and paylines that pay both ways. In contrast, Spinfinity Man has three groups of bonus features, making it one of the most fun slots to play if you're a fan of bonus features.
It seems it’s only a matter of time before Betsoft finally hits the nail on the head with some game that will take the world by storm and will, crucially, be able to retain players for years.
Betsoft is in position to compete against the best developers such as NetEnt on regulated markets, while on unregulated ones such as Australia they compete with Realtime Gaming and Rival. Of course, people have a tendency to only think in terms of what the "best" brand is, but you can get a great experience with a brand that's 3rd or 4th in the race. That's Betsoft for you – and don't mistake them for a small developer. They have over 200 employees and a serious administrative team that signs deals all over the place.
While Betsoft will never be considered the best slot game developer in the world, they're actually not that far behind. They're producing slots that are fun to play and that have a very high theoretical payout, much higher than the competitors. In the last year they have produced at least six games with RTP near 97.00%, and they feature 20 slots in the portfolio that have RTP 97.00% or higher. Very few, if any, other developers can say that.
As a conclusion, it would be recommended to go out and play Betsoft slots even if they're not as advertised as some NetEnt latest release. The portfolio of Betsoft is a list of fun games with exciting features that pay well.
