Are progressive jackpots really a jackpot?

Are progressive jackpots really a jackpot?

Have you heard of Jackpot 6000? Have you heard of Mega Fortune slot? If you are a slot player and you don't know them, then you are from a weird country - maybe from the UK. The first one is the most popular slot game in Norway and the second one is basically popular through the whole Europe (Yes, UK has already left Europe... or what ever they did). On the other hand in Canada, you can play at any of these sites both of the mentioned games and learn about casinos where you play for real.

The slots mentioned above are some of the most popular slots in the history of gambling. Have you ever heard any news of a jackpot being hit in Jackpot 6000? I bet not. The reason behind it is as the name suggests - the jackpots by Jackpot 6000 are not higher than 6000.

And what about Mega Fortune? They indeed make it into the news. Even we wrote about the Mega Fortune winnings here or here or even here. After that we stopped writing about it only because it is kind of boring stuff to read all over again and again and... again.

What is the point?

The reason I write about the difference between the 2 games is that the jackpots are so much different. Different in size, different in payout frequency and different in publicity. Does a 6000 EUR or dollars jackpot deserves publicity? Of course not. Does a multi million jackpot deserves publicity? Well, you know the answer...

Before we move on with judging about which approach is better, here is some insider information from a casino i used to work in. To make money we only needed Jackpot 6000. This slot was earning fortune each month back in those days (sometimes between 2006 - 2015) and this was the only game that the casino needed to be super profitable. And yes - the key market was Norway.

Yes, the information is actually not what we expected. Instead of making fortune on a slot game that pays a jackpot only once a month, the fortune is being earned on a slot that pays daily. And remember. Both of the games are a product of the same company.

Does it mean the progressive jackpot slots are better?

Is there anything like a good thing in gambling? It all boils down to payout and that number is never above 100%. In the case of Mega Fortune at at he time of publishing of this article it was 96.6% and in the case of Jackpot 6000 it was 95 - 98.9%. So basically the same as you see. That means it all comes down to volume. While Jackpot 6000 is a local jackpot, Mega Fortune is a progressive one. This means that more casinos are collecting money for one lucky player.

There is however another angle you can look at the issue. Do you think any casino is subsidising the jackpot with their own money? You better sober up. Each jackpot that has been paid out has been funded by players. For each 100 euros won by you, at least 103 had to be lost by somebody else. So don't get too naive. It is a bad thing.

Maybe is roulette the right way

Or maybe not. Of course, roulette is not operating on a jackpot system but there is the same thing that plays against you and that is the theory of probability. While slot games collect money and pay them out once in a while in a form of a jackpot, roulette is also not giving you payouts more than 100%. While in slots you lose fast and win fast, in roulette you lose slow and win slow. Does it make sense? If not, thing again.
